With financial assistance from C&A, Grameen Shikkha started up a vocational training center in Savar town in Savar sub-district of Dhaka district in 2008 to provide vocational training to poor school-dropout young men and women. The program is now mainly funded by the GSRD Foundation/Wilde Ganzen, the Netherlands besides a few other donors.
Training is provided in different trades like industrial sewing, dress making & tailoring, electrical (house wiring, industrial electrical wiring, motor rewinding), garments machine mechanics, solar home system management, computer applications and hardware, Internet, spoken English, motorbike repair etc. By December 2025 more than 15,000 students received training from Grameen Shikkha vocational training center. GSRD Foundation of the Netherlands, one of the long time donors of Grameen Shikkha, funded a special vocation training program of Grameen Shikkha in 2021 to provide short-term training to 1,057 young men and women who were unemployed or had lost jobs because of COVID-19. From 2022 GSRD/Wilde Ganzen is funding the regular vocational training program of Shikkha under which more than 6,000 young men and women are to receive vocational training from 2022 to 2026.
Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) is certifying Electrical House Wiring and Computer Office Application courses (6 months courses) conducted at Grameen Shikkha vocational training center since 2027. More than 650 Grameen vocational students have passed BTEB certification exams.
In 2013 Grameen Shikkha established another vocational training center in Kalma, Savar sub-district, Dhaka (near Savar town). This training center, a five-storey building with residential facility, has a modern electrical training lab furnished by Schneider Electric of France.
