Expression of Gratitude to Grameen
I am Zafor Dewan (in the middle in photo), father: Late Abdul Khaleque Dewan, mother: Sajeda Begum. I have another sibling. I am a permanent resident of Madhabpasha village and Madhabpasha union under Airport Upazilla of Barisal district. I completed my primary from Madhabpasha Govt. Primary School. Then I took admission in Madhabpasha Chandradeep Secondary School, which is now called Madhabpasha Chandradeep High School & College.
When I was a student of grade-10 I received the Grameen Shikkha scholarship, which continued until 2015. I am grateful to Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus who created the Grameen Bank, which has been contributing to the social-economic development of the country since its inception. Not only this, he has also created Grameen Shikkha, which has been helping poor meritorious students with financial assistance so they can carry on their education. The long term Grameen scholarship not only encouraged me in my studies, it also helped me financially. I would like to express my gratitude toward this organization.
Finally, I wish every success of Grameen. I believe it will contribute more and more by increasing its number of scholarships to poor meritorious students in the rural areas of the country.

This is my great pleasure that I got the opportunity to tell my real life story to the platform from where I received intensive financial and mental support to reach my present stage. I’m Dr. Zinath Roksana from Bogura, Bangladesh. I completed my M.B.B.S and internship from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka. I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Citi Scholarship for Young Women. I’m very much grateful to Grameen Shikkha for its generous support for my education. I ha
During the period of 2007-2014 our family was passing hard times due to financial strain and it was really difficult for my parents even to arrange food and cloth for all of us, and continuing with my studies was really a dream then for me. During this crisis Grameen extended its financial support so I could continue my studies. I’m really grateful for that.
Just to give my updates, in March 2019 I got chance to get enrolled with Dhaka Medical College (DMC) for Postgraduation degree in Anesthesiology, and later I joined Bangladesh Civil Service in December, 2019, and currently I'm serving as medical officer at Upazilla Health Complex, Sonagazi, Feni. Besides that I’m trying to complete the United States Medical Licensing Examination. I already passed the USMLE Step1 exam in August, 2018. Now I am preparing for USMLE Step 2 ck (clinical knowledge) exam.
Thank you once again Grameen Shikkha for your generous support throughout the journey. I’m looking forward to the day I would be able to help other students just as you have helped me.
Yours sincerely,

I come from a very poor family. My father was a small village grocer who used to earn between BDT 3,000 to 4,000 a month. It was almost impossible for my parents to bear the educational expenses of eight children. Sometimes they had to borrow money from others to pay for our education. At that moment Grameen Shikkha came forward to help me. From grade-8 until completion of my post graduation from Civil Engineering from Rajshahi University of Science & Technology (RUET) I received Grameen

Born in a poor family, I had to undergo a lot of financial struggles during student life. It was very difficult for my father, an autorickshaw driver, to bear our educational expenses (me and my three other brothers and sisters) in addition to bearing family expenditures. Then, Grameen Bank and Grameen Shikkha came forward with their financial assistance programs including scholarships and education loans which helped us a lot to continue our studies uninterruptedly during high school, college, and university levels. We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of Grameen Bank and Grameen Shikkha. Hope that these two institutions will continue their financial assistance to the poor but meritorious students in a greater extent in future. Wishing all the very best!

I was born in 1989 in a poor family in the village of Darirajnagar, post office: Jamirta, Upazilla: Singair, district: Manikganj. It was extremely difficult for my parents even to manage food for a family with seven children. Higher education was mere a dream. Still my parents got me admitted in grade-1 in Noadda Rajnagar Govt. Primary School. And thus began my education life. My father would catch fish during the rainy season and work in the field as a sharecropper during the dry season. I u
Then I went to get admitted in grade-6 in Jamirta S. G. Multilateral High School. I felt very helpless when I found that my parents were not able to afford the 280 taka needed for my admission in grade-6. My dream of going to high school was almost shattered when one of my aunts came forward with the money to help me get admitted in high school. I started high school in the year 2000 and became topper in grade-6 finals. I performed very well in grade-7 finals too. When I was in grade-8 the local Grameen Bank manager came to our place and said that he was looking for a poor but brilliant student for a Grameen Shikkha scholarship. The headmaster of Jamirta High School strongly recommended my name for the scholarship and eventually I received the scholarship called “Dr. Wolfram Engel Scholarship.” Since then until completion of my higher studies I received scholarship support from Grameen Shikkha under different scholarship programs.
This tremendously helped me carry on my studies and I will never forget the assistance. In 2005 I completed secondary school finals from Jamirta High School with a GPA of 4.06 (out of 5.00) and took admission in higher secondary at Jahangirnagar University School & College. In 2007 I completed higher secondary finals with GPA of 4.10 (out of 5.00) and I took admission in Bangladesh Islami University for a legal degree and completed my LL.B course in 2012 with a GPA of 3.68 on a 4.00-point scale. I joined the Manikganj Bar in 2012 as a probationary lawyer. In 2017 I took admission in ASA University of Bangladesh for a postgraduation degree in Law and I successfully completed my LL.M with a GPA of 3.58. Then I sat for the Bar Council exams, which I passed in December 2018, and in January 2019 I joined the Manikganj Bar Council (Membership No. 520). I am doing my job with utmost sincerity to serve my country and its people. I would request all to keep me in their prayers.

I began to realize what financial hardship was when I started going to school. It was difficult for my parents to manage a seven-member family with the little means they had and several times my father had to borrow to bear the educational expenses of me and my siblings. Ambition is putting a ladder against the sky. I had a little dream in my childhood – to take proper education only. I never wanted to be rich; I just wanted to be a complete person with knowledge and power. The power with which I can contribute to solving the problems ar
In consequence, I gifted them Primary Scholarship in the talent pool category and later Junior Scholarship in the same category from a different high school. Grade Nine appeared with additional burdens for buying a bunch of books with the supplementary materials for the SSC (Secondary School Certificate) exam preparation. Grameen Shikkha, a sister concern of Grameen Bank, then came forward to assist me in fulfilling my dream. With their contribution in my education, I completed the SSC and HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) exam with top-notch results, which led me to get admitted into the top engineering school in the country –Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET). I was a Grameen Shikkha scholarship holder until the end of my graduation from BUET.
As the scholarship drove away from the difficulties of carrying my education costs, I could concentrate more on my studies and stand in the 8th position within a big class. In parallel, I worked as a private tutor by drawing out some hours from my busy days and helped my family by taking some extra responsibilities. After my bachelor, I worked in AKS Steel for two years and then moved to the USA to fulfill my dream. I earned my MS in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University. While working as a Research Assistant (RA), I conducted research on Cancer Cell (CTC) separation from the cardiovascular system using a numerical approach. After the successful completion of my graduate study, I worked shortly at GE Appliances as a Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op (Intern). However, I wanted to build my career in the semiconductor industry due to my interest in micro-nano technology, and I dreamt of working in the top company of this field. Now I work at Intel, the leading semiconductor company in the world. At last, my hard work paid off, thanks Grameen Shikkha and all who supported me these years to reach my goal. “A dream doesn't become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work,” said by Colin Powell.

The role of GSRD Scholarship of GRAMEEN SHIKKHA PROGRAMME in my life…….
Scholarships are to reward students' academic achievements and educational programs. To grow new abilities, receiving a scholarship is a big achievement. With the economic benefits, getting a scholarship can open the way to various educational centers as well as employment opportunities. This is actually a Golden opportunity for genuine aspirants.
I am Nur-E-Saba, cu
At that time my other siblings were also studying. So with all other expenses my family was struggling to make ends meet effectively.
The increase in the cost of school, college, and university fees was the number one reason for which this scholarship was helpful to me. Therefore, it’s highly advantageous for a student to continue her studies and keep out of all the financial stress.
Furthermore, college or university students also have to go through with food and travel costs. These costs build up slowly and tend to cause a lot of harassment. But receiving a scholarship that takes care of all these costs is highly advantageous.
So the contribution of GSRD Scholarship of GRAMEEN SHIKKHA PROGRAMME to end my education life smoothly and start my working life without any hindrance is acknowledged in my life.
