Grameen Shikkha Mourns the Death of Professor Salma Khan
We are deeply saddened at the death of Professor Salma Khan, eminent educationist, economist, women’s rights activist and member of the Grameen Shikkha Board of Directors who died on 2 July 2022 at the age of 81 (May Allah grant her eternal peace in heaven).
A Fulbright scholar who received degrees in Economics at University of Dhaka and University of Chicago, Professor Salma Khan worked as Chairperson of the Economics Department at the University of Chittagong, Ambassador of Bangladesh Government to Indonesia, member of Planning Commission of Bangladesh Government, Chairperson of the NGO Coalition for Beijing Platform for Action, and also as Chairperson of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). She received a number of prestigious national and international awards during her lifetime.
She had been a member of Grameen Shikkha Board of Directors from December 2012 till her death.
