Arsenic Mitigation Program (AMP)
Image

Grameen Shikkha has conducted arsenic mitigation works from 2001 to 2008 in several areas of Bangladesh.

There are two kinds of alternative water options: household level options like Alcan filter, Rain Water Harvester (RWH) etc. and community level options like Pond Sand Filter (PSF), Pipeline Water Supply System (PWSS) etc. For community options villagers are organized into groups to install and manage the water supply systems on a sustainable basis.

There are four approaches to supplying safe water options: removing arsenic from arsenic contaminated shallow level water (e.g. Alcan Filter); using non-contaminated (arsenic) water after treating them for harmful bacteria (e.g. PSF); preserving rainwater (RWH); and using deep-level safe water (PWSS).

Grameen Shikkha has conducted arsenic mitigation works in some highly arsenic areas of Bangladesh like Chandpur district, Comilla district and Mymensingh district.
